| Texas comes from a Spanish misunderstanding of the Caddo Indian word tejas, meaning friend. |
Milton Silas Wing was born in New Sharon, ME in 1933. He is the son of Benjamin Raymond Wing whose family had been in Maine since Simeon, great grandson of Stephen. They moved from Sandwich, MA and were the first settlers of the town of Wayne, ME formerly New Sandwich. Some of the family later moved to Phillips, ME where reunions have been held each year for over one hundred years. Milt moved to Beaumont, TX at the age of four and was educated there, receiving a B.S. in Chemistry from Lamar State College of Technology. He was employed by The Dow Chemical Co. in their Research and Development Department for thirty-two years, eventually becoming Technical Director of Research. In this role he was awarded seventeen patents and had an opportunity to travel extensively. After retirement Milton became a member of the Chemical Engineering Faculty at Lamar University in Beaumont and a consultant for the Chemical Industry in the Houston area. He was the Industrial Liaison for a group of major universities doing EPA-funded research. Now fully retired, his past-time pleasures include golfing, reading, playing the organ and traveling with his wife, Mary Nita. They have been married almost fifty years and reside in Lake Jackson, TX where their three children grew up. Milton is a life member of the WFA. He and his family have been active in the Texas Wing membership since the organization formed in 1990. Mary Nita has been the Secretary of the Ninth District for years. Milton's line: Benjamin Raymond, Benjamin Blethen, Silas Maxim, Samuel, Moses, Simeon, Ebenezer, Nathaniel, Stephen, Rev. John. |
