New York...The Empire State
New York City was once the capital of the United States. George Washington was inaugurated as the First President of the United States in downtown Manhatten.
Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free." The Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island near Manhattan served as a symbol of freedom to immigrants seeking a better life in the United States.
We know that there are upwards of 250 Wings that live in New York state. Naturally, all of them are not descendants of Rev. John Wing & Deborah Bachiler but there have to be more than the 59 members that are presently members of the WFA. Not to mention the Wing descendants that do not carry the last name of Wing!!!! That is all of the New York WFA members that we have...59. In 2006 New York was the largest state in population following California and Texas and the WFA only has 59 Wing descendants from that state that care to support their family organization which is going on 106 years of uniting our family, distributing family history and doing everything possible to keep our distinquished heritage alive for future generations. Not to mention that the WFA maintains the Wing Fort House in Sandwich, Massachusetts which is our very own historical treasure, owned and maintained by the Wing Family of America, Inc. Come on New Yorkers...you can do better than that. Please, do better than that. We need you. We really do. It is important for our membership to grow. We have a lot of work to do on the Wing Fort House just to keep it maintained. Not to mention that there are hopes of finally adding a building on the Wing Fort House site which was a dream of the founders of the WFA in 1902. The additional building was originally meant to be a building to hold our records, our historical papers...a Wing museum if you will. WE NEED HELP
