Daniel Wing Jr., son of Daniel Wing and Hannah Swift

Daniel Wing (Daniel, Rev. John, Matthew), born January 21, 1664/5 in Sandwich, Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts. Daniel was only 9 days old when his mother, Hannah Swift Wing died. Daniel married Deborah Dillingham in 1686 at Sandwich, Deborah was the daughter of Henry Dillingham and Hannah Perry.

Daniel lived in Sandwich and was admitted a townsman in 1691. In 1730 in a "list of heads of families in Sandwich" the names of Daniel, Nathaniel, Ebenezer and "Widdow" Wing are listed. Eben Wing Hoxie described Daniel and his son, Zaccheus as coopers, "They wanted land and a good deal of it. They were an ambitious people and must have been very industrious; they were thrifty and would not have been content with this small parcel of land." In 1719, Daniel Wing obtained a portion of Joseph Foster's twenty acre lot. In the deed which is still preserved, Foster speaks of it as having been "laid out to me for a part of my Lott in the first Division." Eventually the whole of this wood lot became a part of the Wing property and in the division by the two brothers, the portion which fell to Paul was always known as "Foster Lot."

Mr. Hoxie was also of the opinion that Daniel Wing, after his marriage to Deborah Dillingham in 1686, settled "up near the woods, somewhat by himself," and that he was the first to live upon the Wing homestead upon upper Lake Shawme, now owned by a Mr. Crane. When Daniel was 67 years old in 1731, his son Zaccheus married Content Swift, and Daniel conveyed to Zaccheus the same year, "all the upland, salt and fresh meadow land, swampy ground and wood lots which I am now the owner or proprietor of in the town of Sandwich with the orchards, fruit trees, underwood and fences Belonging to all or any of said lands with the south-westerly end of my dwelling house and the Chamber over it (after my decease and my wife's the other part of the house also) together with my barn and all other buildings on said lands." The consideration stated was 400 pounds.

From the fact that there is scant mention made of the vital records of the family of Daniel and Hannah (Dillingham) Wing in the Friends' records at Spring Hill, and because of the further fact that he was given credit for work in building the "minister's house" we are inclined to believe that Daniel was not in good and regular standing among the Quakers.

Daniel's will was dated March 22, 1837 and proven on May 3, 1740. He made his son, Zacheus Wing, Executor. In the will Daniel mentions "Children of my two oldest sons deceased" and son Zacheus; daughters, Rebecca Hatch and Hannah, and he also mentions the children of his daughter, Dorcas. Daniel gave to his granddaughter, Susannah " a cow which his son-in-law, John Shepherd had in keeping."

Daniel Wing Jr. and Deborah Dillingham had the following children:

1. Edward Wing, born September 10, 1687

2. Samuel Wing, born October 12, 1690

3. Jemima Wing, born October 14, 1692 at Sandwich. Married William Russell on January 7, 1722/23 at Sandwich, Barnstable, Massachusetts. If Jemima Wing and William Russell had children, I have no record of them at this time. It is assumed that Jemima died before her father because she is not mentioned in his will.

4. Dorcas Wing, born December 6, 1695.

5. Rebecca Wing, born September 1, 1700

6. Zaccheus Wing, born June 3, 1703

7. Hannah Wing, born December 29, 1705
