John Wing
Son of Daniel Wing & Hannah Swift
John Wing was born November 14, 1656 at Sandwich, Barnstable, Massachusett
to Daniel Wing and Hannah Swift. John died August 1, 1717 at the age of 61
at Rochester, Massachusetts. John received a mare foal to share with his
brother Samuel Wing in the will of his grandmother, Joan Swift. John also
witnessed the Indian Treaty at Pemaquid on August 11, 1694 (Doc Hist.x11)
John Wing married Martha Spooner about 1683. Martha was the daughter of
William Spooner and Hannah Pratt and she was born about 1658. John Wing and
Martha lived in the part of Sippican that is now Rochester, Massachusetts.
John was a cooper (barrell maker) and was pominent in the early political
affairs of Rochester. He was at different times, sealer of weights
and measurers, overseer of highways, and served as selectman for four
terms.
Martha Spooner Wing married John Davol after John Wing died. It was probably
a marriage of companionship more than anything else. Martha was about 59
when John Wing died, so quite naturally Martha and John Davol never had children
together.
John Wing and Martha Spooner had the following children:
1. Stephen Wing, born September 5, 1684 at Rochester, Barnstable Co.,
Massachusetts.
3. Joseph Wing, born December 23, 1686
4. Deborah Wing, born October 15, 1687 at Rochester. Deborah died before
1694 at Rochester.
5. John Wing, born March 1, 1688/89 at Rochester.
6. Hannah Wing, born January 10, 1690/91
7. Daniel Wing, born February 8, 1693/94 at Rochester. Daniel died January
2, 1713/14 at the age of 19.
8. Deborah Wing, born February 23, 1695/96 at Rochester. Deborah
died March 10, 1715 at 19.
9. Desire Wing, born February 3, 1699 at Rochester.
10. Samuel Wing, born November 12, 1704 at Rochester.
