Hannah Wing
Daughter of John Wing & Unknown

Hannah Wing (John Wing, John Wing, Rev. John, Matthew) born about 1677, married Moses Barlow at Rochester, Barnstable Co., Massachusetts. Although we do not know the exact date of their marriage, their first child was born March 23, 1699. Moses was born born about 1655 at Sandwich, Barnstable Co., Massachusetts, the son of George Barlow and Mary Unknown. Moses Barlow died in 1736 at Rochester, his will was probated on April 2, 1736. Moses was about 80 years old at this death.

Wilson Barstow wrote in 1879 [34]: "The Barlows and the Hammonds were the ancient nobility of the place. Old Deacon Moses Barlow, one of the first proprietors to lay out land, was famous in his day as a deacon, pillar of the church, and leader in society. It is said that when the wife of Deacon Barlow died, he mourned for her with due propriety for a year and a day. Then mounting his horse, he rode to the home of a maiden lady, and having knocked with his cane without dismounting, he greeted her with, `Good morning, I am in pursuit of a wife; if you will have me, I will come in, if not, I will go farther.' `Why, Deacon,' was the reply, `How you astonish me! Thank you, you had better come in.' A few days later there was a wedding, and the Deacon took his new wife home on a pillion behind him.'"

It should be mentioned here that it has not been proven for certain that Hannah Wing was the daughter of John Wing III and Mary Unknown. According to Torrey's New England Marriages Prior to 1700, page 42: "Barlow, Moses & 2/wf Hannah (Wing); b 1699; Rochester." Secondly, The Barlow Clearinghouse mentions: "Moses Barlow married second Hannah Wing at Rochester, probably around 1696-97. She is believed to be a daughter of John Wing."

Hannah Wing and Moses Barlow had the following children:

1. Anne Barlow, born March 23, 1698/99.

2. Joseph Barlow, born February 12, 1702

3. Mary Barlow, born February 9, 1704

4. George Barlow, born January 15, 1706
