1677...After the death of Thomas Hambleton, Lydia Wing and her sons, Daniel and Thomas returned to Sandwich, Massaschuetts. Quaker records support the fact that she and her two sons lived alone in Sandwich in apparent poverty. The records suggest that this was a great concern to her father, Daniel Wing.

1678 to 1683...Several references are made in the Men's Monthly Meeting (Quaker) to providing "a more convenient place" for Lydia Hambolton and her children." For whatever reason, Lydia persistently refused their offers but she did accept shoes, wool, food and money from the Women's Monthly Meeting...which is recorded in their minutes from 1677 through 1683. (Quaker)

The will of Lydia's father, Daniel Wing (Mayflower Descendant XXXII:133-35) mentions To "my Daughter Lydia Mott" £5. However, according to The Owl DEC 1904, p. 354, she was called "Lydia Abott.". It should be pointed out that Lydia is the only daughter that Daniel Wing provides for... and... although she is fifty-one years of age at the time, her father "constitutes and ordained to be over her John Jennings and Thomas Smith."

1704...Lydia Wing Hambleton Abbot witnesses the marriage of Gershom Gifford to Deborah Bowerman. This relationship was familial as several Wing family members married Giffords.

There is no record of Lydia's death but it is probable that she died before 1709 when her husband is allotted 10 acres of land.

He had 13 acres of land on upper Shawme Pond, in Sandwich; 3 acres were granted in 1688 and 10 acres in 1706, adjacent to the property of Daniel Wing Jr. who was his brother-in-law. This property was called "Abbott's Orchard" granted to John only for his lifetime.

Charles E. Pope, one of the oldest residents of Sandwich, wrote The Owl in 1903, "The orchard eastward of the house of uncle Ebenezer's place was known in my boyhood as "Abbott's Orchard." "Uncle Ebenezer's place was generally accredited with being the homestead of the very first Wings at Sandwich. It is probable that Lydia Hamilton, as a widow, and later as Lydia Abbott, lived in the small house in "Abbott's Orchard", at the south end of upper Shawme Pond. This house was mistakenly assumed to be the original home of Deborah Wing and her sons. This legend probably arose because Lydia lived there from 1677 without final approval from the town, but obtained the land by town grant in 1688, when her brother Daniel Wing obtained larger grants adjacent and built there. The house remained in the Wing family until 1794 when it was sold to Elisha and Lemuel Pope, who moved it to the new Pope house at 14 Grove St. in Sandwich, where it still exists as a wing of the main house, and is now separately numbered 16 Grove St.
