in Truro, Barnstable Co., Massachusetts at the age of 44.
Little can be discovered about Mary White's father, Joseph White Jr., he was born May 1, 1674 to Joseph White and Mary Rogers. Mary Rogers was the daughter of John Rogers and Frances Watson. At the age of twenty-two, Joseph White Jr., married Oseah Wing Turner, the widow of Nathan Turner. Oseah, born September 12, 1652, was forty-four years old when she married her twenty-two year old bridegroom. It would be interesting to discover what circumstances led to this unlikely match. Joseph White Jr., was the grandson of Gowin White,(History of Scituate, Massachusetts) who was born about 1607 in England, baptized in West Quantoxhead, Somerset on May 23, 1607. He died before MArch 3, 1664/65 in Scituate, Massachusetts. He was a planter. Gowin left England before May 1637, but first appears in the records of Plymouth Colony at his marriage in 1638. He could bear arms in 1643, and was propounded freeman 5 Jun 1644, the same day he took the oath as constable of Scituate. He was one of the Conihasset partners in 1648. "Gowin White, (Planter) was one of the Conihasset partners in 1646. In 1650 he purchased a considerable farm of William Richards, who removed to Weymouth: it was on the south of Till's or Dwelley's creek, and now [1831] the Ruggles farm. There is no record of the family of Gowin White, be we find Joseph and Timothy to be his sons and heirs: also Sarah, who may have been his daughter, married John Bailey 1672." On 15 Oct 1638 Gowin married Elizabeth Ward, in First Parish Church, Scituate.16,44 Goeing and Elizabeth 'Servaunt to Mr. Hatherlye'. Born ca 1597 in Devonshire, England. When Mary White married Jedediah Lombard, she, like many other Wing family members, married a cousin. Mary White was the descendant of Oseah Wing, daughter of John Wing, while the man she married, Jedidiah Lombard was the son of Captain Thomas Lombard, who was the son of Hannah Wing, who was the daughter of Daniel Wing and Hannah Swift. Mary White married Jedidah Lombard on September 25, 1716 at Truro, Barnstable, Massachusetts. They were married by Thomas Paine, Justice of the Peace and their marriage was recorded by John Snow, Town Clerk. Jedidiah was born February 16, 1696/97 in Barnstable, Barnstable Co., Massachusetts, the son of Captain Thomas Lombard and Mary Newcomb. Jedidiah was listed as a member of a church in Truro, baptized and admitted on October 10, 1725. Mary was listed as a member of a church in Truro on July 31, 1726. Jedidiah Lombard [Lumbert] Jr. and Mary White had the following children: 1. Jesse Lombard. 2. Joseph Lombard, born May 1, 1717 was born in Truro, Barnstable Co., Massachusetts. 3. Jedediah Lombard, born in Truro, Barnstable Co., Massachusetts on June 18, 1718, died young at Truro, although he lived long enough to be baptized in Truro on December 14, 1725. 4. Mary Lombard, born December 13, 1719 at Truro. Mary married Sylvanus Rich on September 18, 1740. 5. Susanna Lombard, born May 14, 1721 at Truro. Susannah died the 24th of the same month...10 days old. 6. Benjamin Lombard, born March 23, 1721/22 7. Susanna Lombard, born April 30, 1723 at Truro. Married Samuel Bassett on June 15, 1745. 8. Nathan Lombard, born March 28, 1725 at Truro. 9. John Lombard, born August 4, 1727 at Truro. He married Sarah Cole in Eastham, Barnstable Co., Massachusetts on September 13, 1750. 10. Simeon Lombard, born November 29, 1729 11. Elizabeth Lombard, born February 2, 1730 at Truro. 12. David Lombard, born May24, 1732 at Truro. 13. Joshua Lombard, born May 13, 1733 at Truro. 14. Rebecca Lombard, born September 26, 1734 at Truro. She married Richard Rich on November 19, 1761. 15. Thomas Lombard, born March 26, 1737 at Truro. 16. Ebenezer Lombard, born June 25, 1738 at Truro. 17. Joseph Lombard, born July 13, 1740 at Truro. At the age of 43, Mary White, the only child of Oseah Wing and Joseph White gave birth to her seventeenth child. Mary would not live long after the birth of this baby. Mary White Lombard died December 17, 1741. Jedidiah remarried for the 2nd time to a woman by the name of Abigail, her last name is unknown. Jedidiah and Abigail had a child together, Ruth Lombard, who was born September 22, 1744 at Truro. |
