| STEPHEN WING SON OF EBENEZER WING & ELIZABETH BACKHOUSE Stephen Wing (Ebenezer Wing, Stephen Wing, Rev. John, Matthew), born August 2, 1700 at the Old Fort House in Sandwich, Barnstable, Massachusetts. Stephen Wing died December 4, 1765 at the age of 65. Stephen married Anna Hoxie on August 9, 1728 at Sandwich, they were married by Col. Melatiah Bourn, Justice of the Peace. Anna Hoxie was born March 31, 1706, the daughter of Gideon Hoxie and Grace Gifford. Anna died April 13, 1795 at Sandwich at the age of 89. Probably because Ebenezer and his wife Elizabeth lived at the Old Fort House with the aging Stephen Wing, his grandson and namesake, Stephen Wing, son of Ebenezer, became one of the favorites of his grandfather. On May 19, 1705 the elderly Stephen Wing gave to the young Stephen Wing by a deed of gift all the lands he then owned in the town of Sandwich with these words: May 19, 1705, in consideration of "that Good will and natural affection I have and bare unto my grandson Stephen Wing the son of my son Ebenezer" Stephen Wing was a member of the Spring Hill Meeting (Quaker) and a record of his marriage and the birth of his children are recorded there. The Hoxie manuscripts indicate that Stephen moved to the Cedar Swamp, which they claim that a part of that land was given to him by his great Uncle. In fact it is probably part of what he inherited from his grandfather. Stephen and Anna's home was described as being a little way east from the East Sandwich Depot, near the junction of the roads. In 1731, Stephen also inherited from his father, Ebenezer, meadow lands at Plowed Neck and at Bass Creek. Stephen's home was later occupied by his descendants. There is a deed that has been preserved where Samuel and Joshua Wing conveyed to Stephen Wing on March 18, 1754 for a consideration of £500, two tracts of land. One tract was described as 20 acres "adjoining the sd Stephen Wing's homestead, and bounded easterly by sd Stephen Wing's land; northeasterly by the land of Edward Wing; Westerly by the land of John Atkins and William Freeman; southwesterly by the land of John Allen and Joshua Hall." The other tract of land was 30 acres known as "the 26th lot by number in the Division called the Weed lots." Stephen's will was probated on March 11, 1766 at Sandwich. His son, John Wing, was named executor. The will mentions Stephen's wife, Anne, son John, Daughters, Grace Allin and Elizabeth Holway. Stephen also mentions his own grandson, Stephen Wing and granddaughter, Anne Wing. Inventory: real estate, £865, 6s, 8d; personal estate, £164, 6s, 1d.
