Daniel Wing would become the father of twelve children. He would have nine by his first wife, Hannah Swift and he would have three by his second wife, Anna Ewer 1. Hannah Wing, born July 28, 1643, the first Wing to be born in New England, making Rev. John Wing and Deborah Bachiler grandparents for the first time. Of Barnstable, Barnstable Co, MA....eleven miles away from her hometown of Sandwich. Hannah Wing married Jedediah Lombard. 2. Lydia Wing, born May 23, 1647. Lydia would marry twice; (1) Thomas Hamilton, (2) John Abbot. Born at Sandwich, moved to Newport, Rhode Island, forty-seven miles away from Sandwich. Returned to Sandwich after the death of her husband. 3. Deborah Wing, born October 9, 1648, died about 1659 4. Samuel Batchelder Wing, born August 28, 1652, Samuel married Mary Dillingham. Samuel was born at Sandwich, Barnstable Co., MA Although Samuel is credited with a middle name, according to Raymond Wing, this is probably in error. Raymond writes; "While many sources state that Samuel, son of Daniel Wing had the middle name Batchelder, this is in error. No contemporary record exists of Samuel having a middle name and middle names did not come into vogue until around the Revolutionary War. It is believed this error came from a mis-reading of Daniel's will which mentions sons Samuel Bachelder John and Daniel. At the time the will was made (1698) commas were not commonly used. 5. Hepiziah Wing, born November 7, 1654, presumed to have died in infancy. 6. John Wing, born November 14, 1656, born at Sandwich, moved to Rochester, Plymouth Co., MA...seventeen miles from Sandwich. John married Martha Spooner. Martha Spooner was the daughter of William Spooner and Hannah Pratt, daughter of Joshua Pratt and Bathsheba Unknown. In fact, John Wing's younger, half-sister, Experience Wing would marry Martha Spooner's brother, Samuel Spooner (see their history farther down). Ebenezer Spooner and his wife, Mercy Branch Spooner would have a son named John Spooner. John married Elizabeth Wells and their son Joshua Spooner would marry Bathsheba Ruggles, (WARNING...this is not proven at this time) daughter of the quite famous, Brigadier General Timothy Ruggles and his wife, Bathsheba Bourne Newcomb. Bathsheba would, with accomplices, murder Joshua Spooner on the night of March 1, 1778 at Brookfield, Massachusetts. Bathsheba Ruggles Spooner was pregnant when they executed her on July 2, 1778. Another noteworthy item worth mentioning comes from the History of Acushnet, Massachusetts, written by Franklyn Howland; The record of Spooners of Acushnet in the military service of the Revolutionary War is a remarkable one. The writer believes that more persons of one surname were in the war for our independence of British sovereignty who were natives of the little town of Acushnet than served therein from any other one town in the country. That name was Spooner. A spirit of patriotism, loyalty and courage was predominant in that generation of the Spooners of this town. These soldiers were all descendants of John Spooner, who was among the earliest land owners and inhabitants here. 7. Beulah Wing, born November 16, 1658, at Sandwich, moved to Rochester, Plymouth Co., MA...seventeen miles from Sandwich. Beulah Wing married Aaron Barlow. Apparently the fact that George Barlow was the perfect villain in the small village of Sandwich, Massachusetts, it did not hinder the popularity of his sons', especially among the Wing women. Beulah Wing married Aaron Barlow, whose brother, Moses, married Hannah Wing, daughter of John Wing and Unknown, granddaughter of John Wing and Unknown (Elizabeth Dillingham). Besides already being cousins, the marriage between Beulah Wing and Aaron Barlow would make Beulah and her cousin Hannah Wing, sister-inlaws. 8. Deborah Wing, born September, 1660, at Sandwich, moved to Newport, Rhode Island, forty-seven miles away from Sandwich, may have died in Pennsylvania. Deborah married William Dungan. 9. Daniel Wing, born on January 28, 1663/64, at Sandwich, Massachusetts, he was only a few days old when his mother, Hannah Swift Wing died. Daniel married Deborah Dillingham 10. Experience Wing, born August 4, 1668., at Sandwich, moved to Dartmouth, Bristol Co., MA, twenty-eight miles from Sandwich. Experience Wing married Samuel Spooner. 11. Bachelor Wing, born June of 1671, at Sandwich, Massachusetts, moved to Hanover, Plymouth Co., MA, twenty-nine miles from Sandwich (as the crow flies) Bachelor Wing married Joanna Hatch. 12. Jashub Wing, born January 30, 1673/74, at Sandwich, Massachusetts. Jashub is thirty years younger than his oldest half-sister, Hannah Wing Lombard. Jashub married twice; (1) Anna Hoxie and (2) Dorothy Butler, the widow of his nephew, Joseph Wing. |
